PROFESSIONAL SUMMARY
I am a hardworking and motivated individual currently looking for a full
time role as a data scientist after the completion of my Masters degree.
Currently, I am attending Manchester Metropolitan University where I am
studying a Masters in Data Science where my expected grade is a
distinction. In 2024 I graduated from The University of Manchester with
a Bachelors in Mathematics with a focus on statistics and pure
mathematics in particular modules such as Generalised Linear Models and
Regression Analysis where I built the foundations of data modeling and
analytics. I have excellent time management and communication skills,
and can adapt quickly. I also have strong programming skills in Python,
R, C# and Javascript and am familiar with Hadoop, SQL and Scalar. I am
looking forward to the next step in my career by hopefully becoming a
Data Scientist with an industry leading company where I can show my
capabilities in this profession and learn valuable skills as part of the
team.
EDUCATION
Manchester Metropolitan University
2024-Present
Grades:
-
Data Management and Governance - 77%
-
As a group we produced a 10 page written report on the ethics of
Artificial Intelligence in IEEE format with references. We
conducted our own research including using Google Scholar to
justify our reasons. In this module I also learnt how to write SQL
code using Oracle and different structures of databases and
schemas for effective storage of data.
-
Computational Mathematics and Statistics - 81%
-
I showed proficiency in core statistical principles such as
distributions and probability. We used the R programming language
to carry out statistical tests.
-
Principles of Data Science - 82%
-
I produced a 10 page report outlining my approach to data
preprocessing and data visualisation with a dataset provided by
auto trader. The coding was produced using Jupyter Lab and the
Python programming language, specifically packages such as numpy,
pandas, Scikit Learn and Matplotlib.
-
Machine Learning Concepts - 83%
-
The submitted work was a 12 page report showing data
preprocessing, visualisation and the use of machine learning
algorithms such as nearest neighbours, linear regression and
decision trees. When predicting the price of a vehicle, I achieved
a mean test accuracy of 94.2% using a decision tree model.
-
High Performance Computing (HPC) and Big Data (BD) -
Results due June
-
HPC introduced me to parallel programming techniques such as MPI
and OpenMP as well as an introduction to the programming language
C. In BD I performed analysis on large datasets with Hadoop and
Spark.
-
Advanced Machine Learning - Results due June
-
In the Advanced Machine Learning module I expanded my machine
learning knowledge with techniques such as SHAP and LIME for
explainability and PCA, Isomap and t-SNE for dimensionality
reduction. In my coursework I also applied ensemble methods such
as random forests and boosted trees for predicting the price of a
vehicle in a dataset provided by Autotrader.
-
Deep Learning - Results due June
-
In Deep Learning I created a genre classification model for audio
data and implemented the model into an interactive application. I
experimented with a variety of models such as CNNs and Deep Neural
Networks and produced spectrograms from audio files for
visualisation of data and for the input for my models.
-
Algorithms and Data Structures - Results due June
-
Introduction to C# and data structures such as lists, binary
trees, queues and stacks.
University of Manchester - Manchester, MAN
09/2021 - 06/2024
Passed modules:
- Regression Analysis
- Generalised Linear Models
- Programming with Python
- Time Series Analysis
- Mathematical Modelling in Finance
Group projects and presentations:
- Practical uses of Sin and Cos
- Mesh Generation
Both projects improved my research skills, using google scholar and the
university library to conduct my own research in the areas. I wrote a
written report for both projects using LaTeX and created a presentation
on Mesh Generation which I gave in front of members of the University of
Manchester Mathematics department.
WORK HISTORY
Senior Research Assistant | Manchester Metropolitan University
02/2025-04/2025
-
Visual Intelligence System for Threat Analysis (VISTA) cyber security
project with the Department of Computing and Mathematics at Manchester
Metropolitan University.
-
Trained random forest, SVM and logistic regression models to predict
attacks on the IIoT, ICS and predict phishing emails.
- Explored explainable AI techniques such as SHAP and LIME.
- Implemented the results on an interactive dashboard.
-
Created a written report outlining the progress over the project.
-
Explained the product to cyber security experts at an event held at
Manchester Metropolitan University.
Retail assistant | Iceland - Cheadle, Stockport
09/2023 - 05/2024
-
My main responsibilities were handling PoS systems and restocking.
-
Multitasking was a required skill as I often had to process orders on
the till and restock shelves during the quieter periods.
-
Kept up to date with current offers and product ranges to give
customers recommendations or offer assistance when needed.
-
Conducted regular stock checks to make sure there were no gaps in the
shelves and learnt how to follow a shelf plan to move products around
the store when I was directed to.
-
Worked as part of a regularly changing team and helped train the newer
members of staff.
-
Engaged with all the customers and built a friendly and welcoming
relationship with the regular customers.
-
Worked a variety of shift patters, helping to open and close the store
and working after store hours to do stock counts and face up the
shelves.
-
Followed stock loss strategies to prevent waste which included
discounting expiring groceries and meat products using the mobile
stock control devices.
Customer Service Assistant | WHSmith - Manchester
01/2023 - 06/2023
-
During my time working for WHSmith's at Manchester Airport I learnt
valuable skills in customer service and working in retail.
-
My main responsibilities were processing cash and card payments and
refunds on the till in the bookshop and cigarette and vape sales in
the main shop.
-
I handled complaints calmly and professionally making sure every
customer left the store receiving the best possible service.
-
I worked well as part of a team and wasn't afraid to ask questions and
receive feedback from more experienced members of the team. I always
made myself available to new employees needing help and advice.
-
I worked early shifts being at the airport for as early as 4am to
restock and open in time for the busy early morning shift.
-
The customers were always the number one priority however I managed my
time effectively to make sure we never fell behind on stock or
cleaning which improved customer satisfaction.
-
I learnt to handle and complete paperwork for deliveries which
included testing temperatures of foods needing to be kept in fridges
to make sure all health and safety regulations were followed.
Food and Beverage Host | Alton Towers - Staffordshire
04/2021 - 09/2021
-
I worked in the kitchen in a fast food restaurant at Alton towers
during the 2021 season
-
It was a fast paced environment and meant I had to do multiple roles
in the kitchen such as preparing the food and making sure the kitchen
and front of house was clean
-
Working as part of a large team was important so the food was quickly
made and given to the customers which helped my communication and
leadership skills.
Kitchen Porter | Hotel Rudyard - Staffordshire
08/2020 - 04/2021
-
I worked at the Hotel Rudyard soon after restaurants were able to open
due to COVID which meant cleaning and customer service skills were
especially important to ensure the customers felt safe and enjoyed the
service as much as before the pandemic
-
My main responsibilities were helping the chefs in the kitchen and
cleaning the kitchen and dishes
-
I also had to take meals out during busy periods showing adaptability
and multi tasking skills.
Waiter | Uttoxeter Racecourse - Staffordshire
08/2019 - 03/2020
-
My main responsibility was waiting on and bringing out the meals
-
The 1907 restaurant was the most expensive restaurant in the
racecourse which meant customer service skills were especially
important and I had to learn to deal with complaints to make sure the
customers had a pleasant experience
-
Every shift we rotated roles meaning some shifts I would be in the
back helping the chefs prepare the meals and making the tea/coffee for
after the dinner and other shifts I would be front of house dealing
with customer requests and complaints
-
It also got me used to working longer days as my shift would start
before the racecourse opened for the day and would end long after the
last race had finished to clean the restaurant and make sure it was
ready for the next event.
